I end up driving a fair amount for work...it's 4 1/2 hrs from Willis Wharf to ShopBot's offices in Durham and I make the trip once or twice a month...and it's an awfully boring drive. Also make the 6 hour trip to Blacksburg every couple of months...equally boring after you've done it a handful of times. XM satellite radio helps a lot, and I've been a subscriber to Audible to listen to audio books for 4 or 5 years. Just stumbled on some downloadable audio on the web, though, that will hopefully make make the ride informative as well. I figure it couldn't hurt to have something to make me think on the trip...
One neat site is ITConversations. They record interviews and talk sessions at all kinds of conferences and then make them available for download. It's a painless way to keep up with some of the things that are happening in the technology world.
Some others are the recorded seminars at the Long Now Foundation. They're the group headed by Stewart Brand (the "Whole Earth Catalog" guy for you old-timers) that's trying to get people thinking about time and the future by building a clock that will run for 10,000 years. The talks by Danny Hillis and George Dyson are my favorites so far. The downloads are free but they ask for a donation if you like them...let your conscience be your guide!
If you're interested in exploring some of the other audio available on the web, check out the podcasting phenomenon. There's all kinds of cool (and sometimes VERY weird!) downloadable audio available on any subject that you're interested in. A good place to start is the list of the last 100 Podcasts. Don't worry, you don't needs an Ipod to listen...you can just download them to your computer and either listen through the speakers or put it on anything that plays MP3's to carry it with you.
